Inspired by the way in which light touches the land and my emotional response to it, which I then aim to translate onto canvas, back in my studio. The painting process allows me to connect with the landscape again, creating a deeper relationship with the land and personal emotional memory of my experience in it. I aim to evoke a response in the viewer, triggering their own emotional memory.
Scapes and abstracts allow me to play and experiment with mark making, creating gestural brushstrokes. I often paint these subjects while working in tandem with a portrait, this encourages me to keep loose and more playful.
